In June 2005, Morgan completed an undergraduate degree in Ethnomusicology at the School of Oriental and African Studies, graduating with a first in performance on sāraṅgī, the quintessential bowed stringed lute of the North Indian classical music tradition. Subsequently, he was awarded full postgraduate funding by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to undertake a Master’s programme in sāraṅgī performance; and he graduated from SOAS with distinction as a Master of Music in December 2008. Morgan completed work on his PhD thesis at SOAS in September 2016, and received a Doctorate in Musicology in May 2017. Morgan's doctoral research concerned the musical knowledge of the Langā and Māngaṇiyār musicians of Western Rajasthan.
